Port Marina Vela:
Your adventure begins in the heart of Barcelona, at an exclusive port in an unbeatable spot, the ideal place to take in Barcelona’s unique history and architecture. Jump on board, get settled in and marvel at the exclusive Mediterranean appetizers we’ve prepared for you. Pop a bottle of ice-cold bubbly and dig into these gourmet delights. Straight ahead you’ll see the imposing Montjuic Mountain. At 173m, this was the stronghold from which to control and defend the city. Montjuic means “Jewish Mountain” and during the Middle Ages was a significant location not only for the Jewish community in Catalonia but in the whole of the Western Mediterranean. While you gaze at the views, the boat heads out to open water. From here, thousands of different shapes and architectural forms reveal the city’s secrets.
2
Barcelona From the Sea:
After taking in the natural grandeur of Montjuic Mountain, look a bit further down. On one side you’ll see the cruise ship port, one of the most important in Europe and a base for Mediterranean trips. On the other, a mass of enormous cranes signals the city’s commercial port. We’re sailing into the Mediterranean, as you can tell from the gentle breeze and the salt in the air. Observe the sun glistening on the water and curved form of the W Hotel, bathed in rays of light. We continue and you catch sight of the first beach, Sant Sebastià, at the foot of W Hotel. It stretches out for miles, linking the sea with the modernist city of Barcelona. At this point, you’ll see the old fishing village of Barceloneta too. With its little houses, right on the coast, this spot is truly unique.
3
Enjoy a Bite to Eat on Board:
Now we’re heading out to sea on our fantastic Barcelona boat trip, it’s time to relax, enjoy your champagne and gourmet snacks, and admire the city from our Sail District. To your right, Montjuic with its mountain-top fortress, along with the grandiose cruise docks and the commercial port that keeps the city stocked with goods. To your left, you’ll see W Hotel, opened in 2009 and designed by the Spanish architect, Ricardo Bofill. From W Hotel, kilometers of sands stretch out along Barceloneta District, the neighborhood that’s home to Sant Sebastià, Sant Miquel and Barceloneta beaches. Barceloneta district is characterized by its triangular shape. And do you know what? It was created to accommodate people from the La Ribera quarter who’d lost their homes.
4
The Very Best Sunset:
We continue to discover Barcelona’s secrets from our Sail District. Check out the city’s design, with the streets in a grid pattern of perpendicular lines, creating countless different squares of buildings. This urban makeover, called the Cerdá Plan, took place in 1860 and shaped the modern-day neighborhood of Eixample. Trace the Barcelona skyline and you’ll soon find Gaudí’s gem and icon of the city: La Sagrada Familia. As the sun sets, you’ll see the spectacular evening light glistening on the waves and on the two large towers that look out to sea, dominating the Barcelona skyline. Pour yourself a glass of champagne, try our traditional cheeses and relax as we take in Barcelona from the sea. Your skipper is there with everything you might need.
